Lynda Katz is an award winning potter who has lived and worked in Southeast Louisiana since 1973. She works exclusively in porcelain – a high fire, white, vitreous clay body that requires great skill from the potter. She throws each piece individually by hand.
Some pieces incorporate hand building techniques and/or alliteration of the thrown form. After an initial bisque firing, the pieces are glazed and decorated using a technique similar to majolica. Her work incorporates a broad range of influences from throughout the history of ceramics, especially the classic porcelains of the Chinese Song Dynasty and Japanese folk pottery.
