Eastern Cedar and Waxed Linen, Euclid's Dream Series #8,
8.3'' diameter x 3'' height
As a child, Tom Myers of Mobile, AL, observed and assisted his wood sculptor father, which led to a lifelong appreciation of form as abstraction and of wood as a "warm flesh-like, complex, animate, and beautiful medium." Exposure to the wood lathe ignited a passion for balance and harmony borne of the axial geometry of the work emerging from that tool. Myers works with a variety of wood species, and incorporates additional mixed media into his pieces, including precious metals, acrylics and dyes and emphasizes the use of fibers and fabrics such as sea grass, linen, cotton cording, and burlap resulting in a contemporary look that is warm and refined.
